The FIFA World Cup 2010 – Soccer City Johannesburg

As promised in December this is the first in the series. I want to give you a short overview of the stadium, the city and useful facts you as a Nimbuzz user might need.
This is the largest stadium in South Africa with a capacity of 94.000. I is located just south-west of the city centre of Johannesburg with good access from the highways.
Both the opening game and the final will be played here and the countries that are sure of playing here in the group round are South Africa, Mexico, Holland, Denmark, Argentina, Korea Republic, Brazil, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Germany. The stadium is the home of the Orlando Pirates and the infamous Vuvuzela is heard a lot here!
Johannesburg is a vibrant city and I am always amazed how sophisticated the city is. All over the city, in every neighbourhood you will find plenty of places with lots of restaurants and bars. If you stick to the main areas and be observant and careful there should be no major security concerns.
I would say 99% of hotels and bed and breakfast places have WIFI available with reasonable broadband speeds. Many restaurants and shopping centres have also WIFI access so you will definitely not have any problem connecting to the internet to make your NimbuzzOut calls.
And if you want to use your 3G on your phone make sure to read the article I wrote about using your cellphone whilst in South Africa. It is not as expensive as you may think!
My favourite places are the restaurants and bars on 4th Avenue in Parkhurst. I really get a bit of a European vibe there. Otherwise Mandela Square is a place with so many options for eating, fun and shopping that you will never get bored in Johannesburg. Another great place to visit is Melrose Arch which is a secured area full of shops and restaurants.

I would love Johannesburg readers to add to my favourite places in the comments section because after-all I am a Capetonian with little real insider knowledge of the best places in Johannesburg.
The next in the series will be Pretoria which besides being the home of the government it also is the home of an amazing number of beautiful and friendly people.
