Aardvark for all your questions!

September 25th, 2009

I was not sure how the founders got the South African name Aardvark and was interested to know. So far nobody on Aardvark seems to know so if you can help please let me know :) . Overall this is a great network and I love it !!

Up until now only a few lucky iPhone users got the chance to play around with Aardvark on the mobile.Well, that’s not entirely true. Using Nimbuzz on your mobile phone you were always able to use Aardvark on the go via your IM clients such as Windows Live Messenger (MSN), AIM, Yahoo Messenger, or Google Talk.  For those who don’t know, Aardvark is a way to get quick, quality answers to questions from your extended social network. You can ask questions via an instant message buddy or email.

I just quickly want to explain the easy steps of setting up Aardvark with Nimbuzz on your mobile to start  getting your questions answered over IM, while on the road.

Tomorrow Nokia is launching the N97 in Johannesburg. The winners of the N competition will be receiving their N97’s and then the phone will be available for the rest of us. I definitely think this is one of the hottest phones out there. Paul Jacobson has some really interesting reviews and videos you should have a look at.

3 ways to connect with Facebook friends anywhere

May 29th, 2009

South Africans love Facebook. In the last week alone, Facebook was mentioned on 51.000 local webpages in South Africa and we have over 1 million local South African users. Because we at Nimbuzz also love Facebook, below are 3 easy ways to connect with your buddies whenever and wherever you wish.

Of course Nimbuzz on your mobile phone gives you the freedom to chat with your Facebook friends in those moments “in between” when you are out having fun or just relaxing and feel like a chat with a friend, but you don’t really feel like getting off the couch and going to your computer.

Wi-Fi in the Sky! Call, chat and message with Nimbuzz in the clouds!

May 20th, 2009

Wi-Fi in the Sky is the next big thing! (or so they say)

Each day, our lives become more and more mobile, and we need to always be available to our family, friends or business contacts.

The latest buzz in the blogosphere is the project of introducing a Wi-Fi connection, in the airplanes. This will result in complete and “always on” presence online for the ones that need it (like me ).

For U.S. we already have dates when Wi-Fi will be available for most of the travelers.

“AirTran Airways will equip all of its 136 planes with Wi-Fi by the end of July 2009.”
“Delta Air Lines, which operates more than 1,000 planes, and American Airlines, with more than 600 jets, are rolling the service out over the next year (2010).” [LAtimes]

Bridging the 3G VoIP gap on the iPhone: instant messaging and VoIP deluxe

April 22nd, 2009

We have just released our new iPhone version of Nimbuzz to bridge the 3G VoIP gap, and also turn the iPod Touch into an iPhone.

With free Wi-Fi calls to instant messaging buddies already available, we have added a full dial-pad, and the ability to make VoIP calls to landlines and mobile phones at significantly reduced rates with Skype Out, and via our 10 VoIP partners including Gizmo5, Vyke, sipgate and A1.

Turn your iPod Touch into an iPhone! Make calls over Wi-Fi via SkypeOut or via your VoIP provider. You can even see the available Skype Out credit you have directly on the dial pad! Just use the Apple headset with a microphone.

If Wi-Fi is unavailable you can make VoIP calls to Nimbuzz buddies using Nimbuzz Dial-Up VoIP in over 50 countries.

Dial-Up VoIP? What this means is that Nimbuzz dials a local access number that connects to anywhere in the world via Nimbuzz VoIP servers. So you can call your Nimbuzz buddies anywhere for the same cost of a domestic call :)

P.S.: We are experimenting with Twitter, and you can post to Twitter via the Personal Message feature! Try it. Your comments are always welcome, so please feel free to give feedback.
